"Anchored in Excellence"
The theme this year at Williston Elementary School is "Anchored in Excellence". Our goal is for every student to reach his or her potential as we (teachers, students, and parents) all work on the same team. As a Title I School everyone that interacts with the students and everything that happens on campus is aimed to make our students be their best. In the classroom, all teachers are Highly Qualified. What does it mean to be Highly Qualified? It means that all of the teachers at Williston Elementary School meet the standards set forth in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. The standards require teachers to have a bachelor’s degree, be fully certified in the state they are teaching in, and demonstrate knowledge in the subjects they are teaching.
Elsewhere on campus the Educational Support Personnel (ESP’s) are working hard with teachers to ensure that all educational goals are being met for every student. Students are also learning about Music, Art, Physical Education, and Library Skills by highly skilled and qualified instructors. All of these subject areas are integrated on Wednesdays during Cross Curriculum, so that students learn that all knowledge is related.
In other areas on campus, our office, cafeteria, and custodial staffs strive to help us keep learning the main focus. The office staff keeps classroom disruptions to a minimum by fielding phone calls and helping with paperwork. The administration visits classrooms daily interacting with students and teachers. The cafeteria staff creates a warm, homey atmosphere with delicious food to keep everyone’s stomachs full to help students focus on learning. The custodial staff strives to keep the campus and classrooms clean and safe for the optimal learning environment.
It is part of our mission at Williston Elementary School to create an environment where every child can learn, grow, and be successful! We are always looking for volunteers to help us meet this goal. If you would like to be part of our mission please come by, pick up a volunteer packet and see what wonderful things are happening at our school!
Tardy and Checkout Policy for Williston Elementary School Students
This policy was approved by the Levy County School Board at the meeting on August 2, 2011.
1. A tardy is defined as an arrival to class or school after the designated starting time or the tardy signal has sounded. Reasons for excused tardies are the same as for excused absences.
2. Parents must follow the same process to excuse a tardy or early check out as they do to excuse an absence.
3. In Grades K-5, any combination of three (3) unexcused tardies or unexcused dismissals within a nine-week grading period will be equivalent to one (1) absence.
4. The Principal has the discretion to excuse tardiness/dismissals for extenuating circumstances.
5. When tardies or checkouts become excessive, the problem will be addressed through a required parent conference with the school principal/designee.
6. No students shall be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day unless the principal/designee determines it is an emergency.
